Holly Forest I Home for Sale

September 6th, 2017

Tucked away in Sapphire Valley is a Holly Forest I home for sale that is a rare find.  I pulled up and noticed immediately the nearly level driveway.  There is a privacy hedge along the roadside that, as I exited my vehicle, gave me the feeling of being far from town, although I knew there were neighbors relatively close by.  I noted a detached two car garage, a plus for anyone, but a major plus for those of us here year round.

Walking up the steps there is a sweet veranda (Now there is an out-of-vogue word for you, courtesy of my very “deep south” upbringing.) with chairs inviting me to have a rest and take time to listen to the gentle rain that is falling.  I am brought back to reality by the loud woof of what I can only assume is the head of my welcoming committee.  My tours of these homes is mostly solitary, leaving me to imagine what it must be like to inhabit each of them.  Not so here…I am greeted with a loud invitation to play…after all, a little drizzle never hurt anyone.

Inside,  to the right of the entryway, is the kitchen.  With a window looking into the front yard and plenty of cabinets for storage, I can definitely see myself in here.  Although not large, it isn’t at all cramped and is well organized.

The great room features a fireplace and warm wood floors.  The glass doors open onto the large screened porch.  This is definitely a great space,  up in the treetops, where you can enjoy all the sounds of nature.  The door at one end leads to an open area of the deck.  Depending on weather, one of these two outdoor living spaces would be a great place to savor a meal prepared in the aforementioned kitchen.  About this time, my canine tour guide points out that it is also a great place to play with stuffed toys or get a belly rub or chin scratch.  This place is certainly leaving me smiling thus far.

The home features a split floor plan, and I head to the master suite.  It is a good sized room with windows that offer a view of the treetops and the screened porch.  Across the great room there are two guest rooms and another bath.  All bedrooms on the main level is not something seen every day in this area.

The stairs in the great room lead to a lower level.  This is an area with possibilities limited solely by your imagination.  There is a full bath, so consider it for additional sleeping space.  The glass doors lead to a lower covered deck, suggesting perhaps a family/game room.  Personally, I thought immediately of quilting and music.  You just need to see what the room suggests to you.

Call us today for a private showing.  You might even get to meet my tour guide, although he doesn’t come with the house.  Meanwhile, I think perhaps a game of fetch in a gentle rain may be just the thing to end this visit…

Home for Sale in Cross Creek Preserve

August 2nd, 2017

Turn off Highway 64 East and follow the peaceful country road to Cross Creek Preserve, a community located between Cashiers and Highlands.  If you think it is a pretty drive to this point, come along a little farther with me, through the gates of this beautiful area.  Cross the covered bridge and follow the road into this wonderland on Yellow Mountain.  Marvel at the meadows and creeks, keeping an eye out for a glimpse of wildlife. Then, as you round the bend in the road, catch your breath at the vista before you.  Like me, you might find yourself taking your time getting to this house.  The trip alone is worth the time.

Suddenly, there it is.  I pull into the circular drive and stop at the steps to the inviting front porch.  It is quiet here…no traffic noises to disturb my reverie.  I am debating whether to go inside or wander the grounds first.  I opt for inside; the house is splendid, but I am thinking of how nice it will be to walk outside or sit on the porch for a time.  A quick tour of the house and I can do just that.  Entering the front door, I realize that I am mistaken.  This won’t be quick.  I am taken aback immediately by the details in this wondrous room.  Massive log columns, a stone floor to ceiling fireplace, wood floors, a wooden spiral staircase to the loft, and an astonishing view through a wall of glass at the rear of the room leave me static for a few moments.  I really want to see the rest of this house!

For those of you who have followed my explorations, you have to know the next room on my list…of course, the kitchen.  It is to my right, and it is only a minute (a very short minute) before the call of culinary creativity is resounding in my head.  This is a wonderful, warm kitchen.  There are granite counters, lots of cabinetry, great appliances, and a work island.  Ummm…I close my eyes and smell my spice cabinet.  Kitchen smells always bring my family close, although I’m not sure whether it is hunger or curiosity.  It doesn’t matter; their smiling faces are there.  Good times, good memories, a good place for both.

I find the master suite on this side of the house.  It is a lovely suite that speaks of peace and relaxation.  There is access to the deck, where I am sorely tempted to venture, but I need to stick to my objective and see the rest of this house.  Back in the great room, I climb the spiral staircase.  The loft looks out over the great room.  There is also a guest room and full bath.  Back down the stairs, I find a second master suite, almost a mirror image of the first, that also has direct access to the deck.  Next comes another guest suite.  Family and friends won’t feel cramped with all this room.

I can stand it no longer; I must see the deck.  Once more, I am not disappointed.  This large outdoor living space is divided into three sections, with the ends being open.  The center is screened, with a cathedral ceiling and another stone wood burning fireplace.  Then, as I look out over the yard, I see the timber lined trails leading through the property.  I am going for a walk.  Until we meet again, I remain…

Home for Sale in Highlands Springs and Falls

June 29th, 2017

There is a home for sale in Highlands Springs and Falls that will have you doubting your proximity to town.  While only minutes from downtown Highlands, this area is peaceful, without the hustle and bustle of town during peak tourist season.  The grounds are so inviting that you forget as you go down the drive you are looking for the house.  My initial thought was, “Where’s my picnic basket?”  The landscaping blends beautifully with nature.   I park next to the enclosed double garage and make my way down the walk to the main entrance of the home.

Entering the foyer with gleaming wood floors, I see a formal dining room to my right and a generously sized living room to my left.  I opt to go upstairs first, where I find a large master suite with his and her closets.  There are also 3 guest rooms and guest bath.  There is a bonus room over the garage that lends itself to all sorts of possibilities.

Back downstairs, I find a den with a gas stove for those chilly evenings.  (The wood burning fireplace has been rocked in, but could be opened back up if new owners prefer a wood fire.)  The kitchen has beautiful granite counters and lots of cabinets plus a pantry for storage.  The breakfast nook has bay windows that look out over the spacious back yard.

Back yard?  Uh oh, I’m thinking again of the picnic basket.  Out I go to explore!  The large back deck is itself a great outdoor space, but down the steps is one of the nicest yards I’ve seen.  There is flat, yes flat, back yard! In my mind’s eye, I see my grandchildren playing croquet, badminton, or football.  There is the sound of water running in the stream and the lush foliage around the pond.  “Oasis” is the word that comes to mind.  A lovely little building (think potting shed, storage, a little girl’s playhouse) is tucked into the rhododendron.  Talk about spectacular when in bloom!

The possibilities are endless here.  Call the Carolina Cone Team today for a tour.  They will be happy to answer all your questions.  Until next time, happy house hunting!

Lovely Townhouse for Sale in Sapphire Valley

January 27th, 2017

I have mentioned before the advantages of a townhouse or condo.  There is a lovely townhouse for sale in Sapphire Valley that is just waiting for someone to call it home.  I was there earlier today and can tell you this place would be excellent for a second home.  It would also be great for a full time resident, as is the current owner.

I stepped onto the enclosed screened front porch and thought what a lovely place to sit and listen to the birds (or even the rain) in springtime.  Perennial garden enhance the area.   The front door, with the stained glass window beside it, bids a warm welcome.   Just inside,  I immediately notice the shining wood floors.  This foyer also serves as a large landing for the stairs that go to the upper and lower levels.  However, I’m getting ahead of myself.  Let’s see this main level first.  The guest bedroom is here, as well as a full bath.  The current owner uses this as a combination office/hobby room.  She, like me, is a quilter.  This room is ideal for use as either.   The size is comfortable, the lighting is good, and it would serve whichever purpose suited you.  The bath is accessible from either the guest room or the foyer.

I make my way toward the stairs to the upper level.  The first thing I see is a warm glowing fire in the stone fireplace on the far side of the living room.  This room, too, has wood floors and a vaulted wood ceiling.  OK, at this point, I am seeing myself with a cup of homemade cocoa (it’s cold outside today!) and a good mystery novel curled up in one of the chairs in front of the fire.  There is access to an open deck from the great room.  The dining area and kitchen is to my right.  The kitchen rather surprised me.  There are lovely granite counters and fine appliances, but I was amazed at the number of cabinets…quite a lot for a townhouse.

Smith RC 1655 12-6-16 (28)

Making my way to the lower level, I find the master suite.  There is a generously sized bedroom with a private covered deck.  The large master bath has a jetted tub, walk in shower, and granite counters.

Merry Christmas

December 20th, 2016

Less than a week until Christmas.  I know you are probably like me…all the prepping in the world doesn’t prevent being inundated with all those last minute details.  I have to remind myself to slow down and enjoy them, rather than letting them stress me out.   This morning as I was coming down North Norton Road, I looked off to the left toward Lake Glenville.  While I didn’t see the lake, the mountaintops appeared to be floating in thick cloud puffs.  The scene was amazing…breathtaking…giving the appearance of flecks of rose gold  scattered over the clouds from the morning sun.  I realized that I was missing out on things that are right in front of me.  There may be one less pie or one less batch of cookies.  No one will miss them.  There always seems to be a surplus in my kitchen anyway.  The beauty of this morning made me reflect on all my blessings…family, faith, friends, job, living in this wonderful area…the list could go on for days.

Alan and Tina Cone

My Christmas wish for you is the peace that I reclaimed this morning…may it find you as well.  From all of us at the Carolina Cone Team, we wish you the merriest of Christmases.

Home for Sale on the 5th Hole

November 8th, 2016

Here it is Election Day!  No matter your choice, I do hope that you have taken a little time from this beautiful day and exercised your right to cast your ballot.  It is a privilege that has been paid for with the blood of patriots, and I hope we all remember that as we enter the booth each time.  We also have the right to choose where to reside (at least to some extent).  Aren’t we fortunate to have the Cashiers Highlands Plateau as one of our choices?  I know I feel so very blessed to be here.

If you, too, love being a part of this area, or wish to become a part, you might opt to have a look at a home for sale on the 5th hole of Sapphire National Golf Course.  Located in Holly Forest I, this home is so distinguished that it was featured on the scorecard for the golf course!  Come along as I take you on a virtual tour, which will only serve as incentive to have the real thing!

Rock pillars mark the driveway to this home tucked away from the road.  I immediately notice there is an attached double garage, simply because it isn’t the norm for this area.  Entering the house, I realize this is definitely NOT your “cookie cutter” version.  Stepping out of the welcoming foyer, I find the dining room, and around the corner, the kitchen.  Now, you may be thinking that a bit odd.  In just a split second, though, you understand it is not odd at all.  The dining room overlooks the sunken living room with its beautiful stone fireplace and has a view of the golf course beyond.  The kitchen is well equipped and has ample cabinets and counters.

There is a deck overlooking the back yard and 5th hole of the golf course.  The back yard itself deserves a mention, with its relaxing fire pit.   Also, on the main level is the master suite, which includes a tiled shower, double vanities, and granite counters.  The first of two guest suites is also on the main area.  A second guest suite is located over the garage.

There is a loft overlooking the dining area and living room.  The uses are only limited by your imagination.  The current owners have decided a billiard table is just what the room needed.  What would you choose?  How would you make it your own?  Call the Carolina Cone Team for a personal tour.  They will help you realize your dreams of a new home, and answer any questions you may have.

Until next time, I remain

Lakefront Home for Sale in Sapphire

November 1st, 2016

There is a lakefront home for sale in Sapphire that offers more surprises than you can imagine.  Put aside the fact that it fronts quiet Hogback Lake.  Put aside the bonus that the house comes with a boat to enjoy on the lake.  Come along with me to see just a few of the many surprises I found as I explored this lovely home.

The stone pathway that leads to the inviting front door, if you choose not to enter at this moment, leads through amazing lush gardens.  You will find yourself wondering if you even want to leave them to go inside, especially on a day as lovely as this.  You are thinking about the steps down to the lake…it may be October, but it is unseasonably warm…how would it feel to dip your toes in the water?

Back to reality, and we realize there is yet a house to be toured.  An inviting entryway is just the beginning.  The great room with its soaring ceilings features a stone faced floor to ceiling fireplace.   The updated kitchen featured a commercial style gas range.  (For those of you who have read documentation of my explorations before, you are well aware that this is the moment for me, the moment I want to start searching for spices, the moment I want to put my culinary talents to task. A deep breath, though, puts me back on track.)  One cannot help noting the wonderful deck through the wall of windows and doors that looks out over the lake.  It is too soon at this point to realize that this marvelous view is accessible from almost every room in this house.

The main level also contains two guest rooms and full bath with heated floors.  The attached double garage is accessible through the kitchen.  Off the garage is an artist’s studio with cedar walls and ceiling and a cork floor.  No real need for an artist’s studio.  Just think of all the possibilities for this room.

The next decision is whether to go upstairs or down.  Flip a coin, and up we go.  Another guest room and full bath are here.  Again we find that view.   I realize as I look out that I haven’t seen the master suite.  The lower level awaits its turn.  I have to admit I was not prepared.  The master suite encompasses the entire lower level.  There is another fireplace here in the spacious sitting area that has access to yet another deck overlooking the lake, this one with a stainless steel hot tub.  The master bath has a custom tiled shower, dual vessel sinks and a dry sauna.

There are just too many extras to talk about here.  You really must see this to believe it.  Call the Carolina Cone Team today for a private tour of this gem.  Until next we meet…
