I was blessed this week to spend some time with the owner of a home for sale in Holly Forest I. More often than not, I am on my own when I visit these homes in search of new owners. That is generally a good thing: I can wander through, then sit down, close my eyes, and envision myself and my extended brood living and visiting in the home. However, this time was very different. I saw living here through the eyes of someone that does live here, and it is a thing to behold. This woman truly loves and cares for this place, feels a stewardship toward it, and wants to see the house in the hands of “someone that will love being here”. It isn’t that she wants to leave, but as we all know, life dynamics change, and sometimes circumstance changes must follow. Come along as I share this tour with you.
I turn into the drive and immediately note the fall flowers in the beds and pots. The leaves are changing and adorning the trees in autumn’s finery as they do this time of year. I see stone steps as part of paths that crisscross this property. One such path goes up the hill, and I note chairs by the path. I learn later that it is a perfect place to enjoy a cup of coffee while admiring a view of the mountain top. I have also noted that, while convenient to Highway 64, there is no road noise; it is perfectly quiet save for the breeze rustling through the trees.
Making my way to the front door, I am greeted by this gracious woman welcoming me into her home. She is aided by a sweet bundle of golden retriever. I admit it…my heart has melted and I have a newfound friend. He gives me a kiss though I have arrived totally “treatless”. The mistress of the home suggests that our first stop be the back deck; therefore, we make our way through the house and out to the rear of the property. The rear deck gives me an almost bird’s eye view of the back yard, and it is clear this is one of her favorite places. Without ever leaving the deck, I can clearly see my grandchildren and great-grandchildren playing here. As she describes to me how this has morphed through efforts of the family from a brushy, almost uninhabitable area to a child’s (and, yes, a golden retriever’s) dreamscape, I can visualize it. There are two streams here, a footbridge across one. Paths wind through native flora. What a wonderful place for an old-fashioned game of hide-and-seek! I am told that deer often walk along the streams.
Back inside, I admire a kitchen with new stainless appliances and plenty of cabinet and counter space. There is a pantry for storage. I know I could enjoy preparing meals here. The dining area looks onto the deck and the backyard beyond through glass doors. Adjacent to the dining area is a family room with a Vermont wood stove. I contemplate family gatherings here; one can almost hear the laughter.
As we make our way to the stairs, we stop by the living room. There is a lovely fireplace here. I am thinking of curling up in one of the chairs with a book, when she says it is a great room for reading. I also learn it is a perfect place for playing board games with children. Oh, how I long for those days again! Memories flood back to me, and I am awash in nostalgia.
Upstairs is a master suite with private bath, two guest rooms, another full bath, and a bonus room. Think home office, extra sleeping space, hobby room. Oh, the possibilities!
My hostess is right; this home, along with the lovely grounds that span a double lot, needs and deserves someone to love and appreciate it. They have done so much here to make this a place conducive to family fun and memories that will last a lifetime. Is it possible this is just the place you and your family need to call home? The Carolina Cone Team will be so happy to take you on a private tour. Before you leave, close your eyes, take a deep breath, and you will feel the warmth of the love that has been put into this place.
Until next time, I remain your tour guide…
